Power of the Purse 2016
Our 2016 “Arabian Nights” Power of the Purse was a lovely night full of fun, friends and fundraising for a great initiative, Energizing Education. Over 230 women joined us at the Country Club of Jackson and bid on over 50 amazing one-of-a-kind purses donated by generous organizations.
Power of the Purse 2015
Our 2015 Power of the Purse Denim and Diamonds fundraiser was a huge success, thanks in
large part to numerous generous donations for the auction. Proceeds from the event benefited
two great programs in the Jackson area that support our mission of wanting to see women
and children succeed: Teen Pregnancy Prevention Initiative (TPPI) and The Jackson ISD
Challenge Day, which educates elementary students about the dangers of bullying in school.
Power of the Purse 2014
This year, the Power of the Purse was be held Friday, November 7th at Gene Davis & Sons Banquet Hall. The theme this year was “Peace, Love & Purses”! We had a sold out crowd of 300 ladies and over 60 purses that were auctioned off!
We would like to give a huge thanks to Certainteed, our sponsor for an unprecedented 3rd year! We partnered with Kia Motors to provide rides home and Pro DJ’s lent us their equipment with Marc Daly as our DJ. Bart Hawley MC’d the night and JTV provided us with video, screens and projects for the live auction! The amazing Tim Bos was our auctioneer once again and Promise Jewelers donated the Pandora bracelet that was given away as a raffle prize. MIMI’s Bakery provided 10 groovy one-of-a-kind cakes for auction. Grand River Brewery was our sponsored wine and provided us with custom label wine and etched glasses. AG Chocolates provided delicious truffle boxes for each attendee! We could not have had such a great night with all the support and positive partnerships with each and every one of these organizations!
Our top 11 purses were donated by Dr. Brad Double Chiropractic, In Good Company, Dr. Mark McFerran, Michigan Community Credit Union, Gerdau, Kiss & Makeup, Lloyd Ganton Retirement Centers, Jeanne’ Wickens, Ondrea Bates, Arcadia Home Care and Staffing, and Brent Family Chiropractic. There were numerous other agencies that graciously donated a purse for the event and we honestly can’t thank you enough for partnering with us for this event!
All of the proceeds from this event are staying right here in Jackson County to benefit Community Action Agency, which provides numerous programs addressing education, community development, housing, economic self-sufficiency, health and nutrition, and various other services, and AWARE, which strives to eliminate domestic and sexual violence while promoting social change and empowering survivors by offering shelter and services including a 24-hour hotline, programming specific for children, legal advocates, and counseling.
Power of the Purse 2013
The Women’s Leadership Council’s fourth annual Power of the Purse event, Nov. 8, at the Commonwealth Commerce Center raised $26,000 for three local United Way programs.
The event, a “Roaring 20s” theme, sold out with more than 265 people attending, Rick Chambers said. Attendees bid on 53 prize-filled purses donated by area businesses and individuals. Funds will support the Child Care Network, which promotes the success of children and families through quality child care education, advocacy and family support; and Family Service & Children’s Aid, which provides counseling, foster care, adoption, community and school-based programs, substance abuse treatment and other services for children and families.
In addition, a raffle raised $2,000 to support Do’ Chas II, assisting vulnerable youth who age out of foster care to improve their academic success.
